Let me tell you an inspiring story of how this really cool Indie real time strategy game was made by a lone developer and why you should try it out since it is basically free except for the extra maps.
So… back in 2009, a year you might remember for gaming milestones like Borderlands, Dragon Age: Origins and the future mega hit Minecraft, this simple guy called Christoph, started his own game company and named it Noble Master.
His own gaming experience of enjoying Command & Conquer games, especially Red Alert 2 shaped his interest in game development and both the type and genre of games he would later go on to make. His first game was called Tropical Stormfront and the second Desert Stormfront both of which were inspired by the mentioned games.
Showing proper understanding of the complexities of game development Noble Master didn’t go for expansive or huge games for his first attempts. But these two games were great stepping stones and learning experiences for an aspiring game developer such as himself.
And so in August of 2017. he began development of what will become his greatest game yet. Retro Commander. This time Command & Conquer games were not the only influence, because he spiced up this new game with the base building and commander robot from Supreme Commander and power systems from Factorio to name just a few new elements.
This new RTS project combined the fast and fun unit combat gameplay of Red Alert and big maps with lots of base building elements of Supreme Commander with a number of other features. It is a free game with some extra paid content as I mentioned that anyone can download and play on Windows, Mac and Linux in both singleplayer and multiplayer modes.
The idea behind the free main game release by his own words, is to make it easy for players to find a multiplayer match as all they have to do is download the game and start playing it, while to prevent any pay to win elements only the extra maps are sold separately.
