The first not obvious thing in the latest Homeworld 3 footage you might have missed is about the mothership itself. This new design has several very interesting features. First of which is the placement of the three Hyperspace Cores at the back near the main engines and quite obvious by their outside casings.
Second, we have the launch bay for smaller craft, scouts, fighters and bombers, at the front, and two other ones, at both sides of the mothership, probably for corvette, as well as a much larger bay for frigate size ships at the bottom. As for capital ships it is likely that a large section of the underside decouples from the mothership to release finished capital ships
Third very interesting feature of the new mothership are its turrets which actually move on rails set on its hull and span between two mini hangers of sorts. These are set on both its top and bottom sides and all have this hangers and rails design.
Another interesting thing you might have missed is the fact that in Homeworld 3 there is an actual Population tab and menu. Up here on the left it says: Fleet population board.
Damage marks on the mothership and enemy carrier. We can see them clearly here on the mothership after that initial attack by enemy fighter craft, while for the carrier we can watch them happen as the bombers do their attack run.
When it comes to the always important formations this gameplay footage was full of moments where different strike craft formations were seen beginning with the first shot and the simple flat delta formation.
It’s good to know that the old system of different stances of units is present in this new sequel. Besides the aggressive stance, we saw the defensive stance as well as the passive one.
The rest of the noticed formations are the cross formation, and the sphere formation taken up by interceptors. We didn’t get to see the iconic claw or wall formations but I think they are there somewhere, kept for future gameplay reveals.
A really unexpected development in Homeworld 3’s gameplay is the fact that we are going back to salvaging enemy units like in Homeworld 1 and scraping the system of marine assault frigates from Homeworld 2.
But what I must admit was an even bigger surprise is that there are no actual salvage corvettes. The resource collectors will have a dual role this time around, with salvage as their secondary role.
One extra thing I think you might not be aware of is how the destroyed ship wrecks now play an active role in gameplay beyond what is shown here. As this gameplay footage showed us the fighters were able to use the old hull sections to hide from the missile frigates and outmaneuver them.
All shipwrecks which are left over after each battle now become part of the persistent battlefield and offer new places for ships to hide and use them as ambush points.
