RiME | Ep. 9 (END) | Moving On
Seriously, I really love the color palette and ambiance of this last area. Big fan.
This is going to be it for RiME! Overall, I'm fairly neutral about the game. I liked the aesthetic and it didn't drag on too long, and the music was pleasant to hear. That said, the theme/motif (5 stages of grief) that binds the game together doesn't really become too apparent until mid to later game (for me at least), which means it feels like a lot of mystery/jumble into nothing as the payoff. I like learning about a world when I go into a game, and in the end there really were no rules/lore as this was basically a 'it was all a dream' ending. Which, again, is fine and I'm good with the idea, but execution-wise I felt it lacking. At the beginning I thought this was going to be more of an adventure puzzle game, but in the end it felt like it was more of a interactive story with small puzzle elements. But that was based on my own perception so that's not a knock against the game. As for the puzzles, they didn't really give you much satisfaction in solving them, and it was more looking at what you were and weren't allowed to do in the world.
All that said, I don't regret playing the game. I think it does what it set out to do, which is to try to depict the feelings and grief one experiences with a lost loved one. It's a little roundabout, but was interesting enough to keep me playing until the end.
Thanks for watching!
