Rise of the Triad is a first-person shooter done by Apogee Software in 1994. It uses a heavily modified version of id Software's Wolfenstein 3D engine. In this game, you can choose one of the five members of the H.U.N.T., the High-risk United Nations Task-force. This team is sent to San Nicolas Island to investigate deadly cult activities in an ancient monastery. Since your boat has been destroyed by patrols, your only way home is to fight through it.

Originally, Rise of the Triad was planned as a sequel to Wolfenstein 3D, called Wolfenstein 3D II: Rise of the Triad. But since it has been heavily modified and enhanced during development, it became an own game. However, some of the original design decisions have been kept, like the German Nazi clothes worn by the enemies and the presence of the MP 40 submachine gun. Beside this, it was also planned to additionally have female versions of the guards, but they had to be cut due to technical limitations. Most of the female voices are on the registered CD version as a bonus.
