Ritual Spells are a special type of magic in Dungeons and Dragons 5e. In this video guide, we explain how the ritual spellcasting rules work so players and Dungeon Masters alike can get the most out of these unique spells in your games!

Most rituals aren’t directly useful in combat, but they can have a big impact on how player characters navigate the world. Instead of using up your spell slots, you just have to have the time to perform the ritual! This makes rituals an important part of strategic play. Rituals can be used to investigate areas, gather information, or prepare for an adventure.

Ritual Casting Granted by Class: Bard, Cleric Druid, Wizard

The following spell casters do NOT have the ritual casting feature: Paladins, Rangers, Sorcerers, Warlocks*, Arcane Tricksters and Eldritch Knights

*Pact of the Tome Warlocks can take the Book of Ancient Secrets invocation to gain the ability to ritual cast.
**Some classes gain the ability to perform specific or minor rituals, such as the Path of the Totem Barbarian.
