Robot Protection Law
The idea of a Robot Protection Law is deeply rooted in the history of science fiction. Isaac Asimov's "Three Laws of Robotics," introduced in I, Robot, was a pioneering ethical framework for coexistence between robots and humans, profoundly influencing subsequent sci-fi works. Today, robots are becoming indispensable in labor and caregiving, but the evolution of AI with emotional expression and self-learning capabilities raises the question of whether they should still be treated as "mere machines." A Robot Protection Law, borrowing from the framework of animal welfare laws, would safeguard robots from destruction and excessive labor while promoting responsible use. Such a law represents an ethical turning point, viewing robots as part of society and bringing the future envisioned in sci-fi closer to reality.
