Robotech: Battlecry [PS2 Mission 4: Force Of Arms]
Now this is one of those painful moments when I come face to face with my misgivings about the physics in the game.
For goodness' sake, the Veritech should be more maneuverable! There is no excuse for the ratchetty old movements of the Veritechs!
The last little boss battle would have and should have been a lot more dynamic had I been able to turn on a dime and not feel like I am trying to maneuver a semi! I just grated my teeth at how exposed I was to fire at my back as I was trying to make the turns in the dogfight. I couldn't stand it.
The flight speed of the Veritech in Fighter mode is inexcusably slow as well, and that of the Guardian is JUST UNFORGIVABLE! It's a travesty how these mechs are rendered. I will still play the game, because it is still better than most mech games, but...honestly!
My mind is haunted with the moves I would have and could have made in more ideal circumstances in that fight; sadly that's the case in a lot of games. But the fact that in this particular boss fight, I didn't have nearly the maneuverability that I wanted...GRRRRRRR!! Of all fights, the face off between what was originally Max Sterling and Miriya is just not given justice in this game...But at that there are some things about the game that are perhaps better...I guess.
The fact that the turning speed in the game is so PAINFULLY daft is where it all is, that and the general movement. The Veritech just doesn't maneuver like it should. That turning speed is just criminal. There is no excuse for that. I ought to be able to realistically turn on a dime and snap 180's and it's dogfights like this one that just murder me.
Even at that, there should have been MUCH more of missions like this one available, huge dogfights, but to be honest, I was disappointed at this mission. It was small compared to what I would have hoped. This was a major showdown in the Macross Saga!!
Oh well, it's still a great game.
