Robotrek is an RPG that was released in 1994 for the Super Nintendo/Famicom. It was developed by Quintet, and Ancient, and published by Enix America Corporation, Enix.

Story: 17/20
A mysterious group calling themselves "The Hackers", suddenly starts an uprising against the population by disrupting the peace of the town of Rococo, and other places around the World. You, the son of a famous inventor, Dr. Akihabara, decides to move to Rococo. As events unfold you soon set off to find out what 'The Hackers' want Dr. Akihabara for. You soon find out the ultimate goal is the Tetron, a mysterious stone that allows viewers to observe events past and future and travel through time.

Graphics: 15/20
Though the game is a fairly late game in the SNES/SFC's lifecycle the graphics still hold up today. Towns look nice and colourful, monsters and art look great still considering it's 16bit. Spells and attacks are reminiscent of the early Final Fantasy games and monster designs are great. The menu's graphical appearance leaves a lot to be desired but the World Map is really nice to the point where it reminds me much of Super Mario World.

Sound: 13/20
This game's OST is nice but it's not really enough to make the game stand out as one of the greats for the SNES/SFC. Some tracks are Great, some are okay butt hey all fit their purpose and fit the areas they are used in. The Sound Effects are nice for the most part but some don't sound anything like what they should potentially be used for.

Gameplay: 16/20
This is where the game shines for me, the customization of the game is huge, meaning you can collect parts and items and use them to mix and match to make your own robots or upgrade them to make them stronger or look different, even create different items out of other items, there's a lot of customization here. That said, you can expect most of the general JRPG features in this game, INNs, stores, equipment, party battles, and so on. It's also worth to note that your main character is not the combatant in battles, your robots you build are the fighters, think Pókemon but with robots.. Medabots maybe..?

Systems: 8/10
As mentioned above, the standout system here for me is the Inventing System where you mix and match items to create new items and also mix parts to create new robots. That aside, this game has all the usual systems you'd expect to see in a JRPG, Save system, INN system, Store Systems, and the such.

Translation: 10/10
This game actually got an official English release in North America in October, 1994 so the translation was pretty much perfect for English speakers only so there was no need for any Fan Translation, though i've seen some do exist for various reasons.

Over all: 79/100
This game should be played in my opinion, it's unique enough to give a fan of JRPGS something different to try out, the story is quite good too, and the ability to mix and match items and create new battle robots.. you'll have hours of fun trying combinations of items in the machine.
