17A look into Ron Smith and his artwork. A long time artist in the UK comic 2000AD, with a career spanning 50 years.
My favourite Judge Dredd artist. I still distinctly remember his art when growing up with 2000AD. I always looked forward to his art adorning the pages.
Later in life I was lucky enough to pick up a framed original of Ron's artwork for part 7 of 'The Graveyard Shift'. A treasured possession. You can see the sellotaped episode number and tippex to add highlights and make minor adjustments to the art. You can see Tom Frame's writing on small bits of paper attached to the art.
It is fascinating to see the actual issue of 2000AD it appeared in, next to the original on the wall. To compare the details and how it appears once it was photocopied.
Sadly, Ron passed away last year, so this is also a small tribute to his achievements.
