Rose-Colored Boy by Paramore Custom Full Band FC #2
Custom fub Friday! Every Friday we're going to be throwing up two (or more depending on how short and memey some are) custom FBFCs in the place of our usual uploads to better keep the train moving. Most will of course be in RB2, the only game that allows custom full band lineups online except Phase Shift (only for instrumentals) and World Tour on PC (lol), but there might be a few 3fers for ez voxtar stuff, though I will keep it to a minimum so as not to cheese the numbers with bullshit and devalue these videos.
Now I can't speak for everyone on the team, but there are generally two types of songs I like throwing onto RB2, and this is a great example of the first kind. As you might have noticed, we haven't been that fond of official DLC in recent years, and while some of that is just because of wider changing musical trends engendering certain kinds of music more predisposed to show up in the game like monogenre alt-pop, let's be honest, HMX's selection criteria has just sucked in general, and this is probably exhibit A. Second big single from Paramore's celebrated last album, made it into Rocksmith but not Rock Band, nor did we get anything from After Laughter...but Hayley Williams' warbly art-pop solo double EP makes an appearance? Yeah that makes sense.
But this is also a great introduction because the title is kind of emblematic of how RB2 is viewed. Now don't get it twisted, it was a fantastic game in its day and it's hardly unplayable now. Going back to RB2 to play customs is literally the most fun I've had with the game in years. But there are some pretty big asterisks besides, most notably the highway transparency. If they couldn't even get it right without title updates to RB3 AND 4, you can bet it's too damn see-through in the game where it wasn't touched. This game's BNS option is also arguably too fast, and it has weird behaviours with the MPA that makes drumming more of a hassle than it has to. Combine that with the infamous strum limit and the lack of swell lanes and it does give our fubbing capabilities on here a few limitations. Just personally speaking too, I can't get over how the background is running at like 25 FPS rather than the 60 FPS of the highways and the 30 FPS of the backgrounds of RB3. And, well, the standard FPS of most games. Looks so odd. You also just kinda take harmonies and Pro Drums for granted because they've been around for a literal decade at this point, until you go back to what the game was "most supposed to look like" according to devs disappointed in having to rush RB1 to market. But whether RB2 is still technically better or worse than 3 or 4 is irrelevant; we have been having a blast getting bops like these and it even relit my own custom charting spark, at least for a little while. Good shit!
Fair warning though I will probably not pull any punches when describing fubs of crappy charts, so it's good this one is fine.
