Welcome to the circus. This is unequivocally the dumbest thing I’ve ever invested any serious measure of time into learning. While it is true that defeating Rospark with Rospark is the requirement to earn the gold medal for him, it is in no way required that you do it on Expert Mode without taking damage. As such, this sideshow is entirely without merit and serves only as proof chronicling my descent into insanity. Join me as I attempt to describe with sincerity my strategy for accomplishing this, it’ll be just rosy.

Introducing our combatants: in the top left corner we have Rospark; I personally believe his existence is an unfortunate consequence of Plant Man’s downward spiral after finding a large leftover stash of Wily’s roboenza pills and wolfing them all down like gummy bears. In the bottom right corner, we have an ostensible facsimile of Rospark, which in reality is nothing more than Grey employing a copy of Rospark’s DNA. One has to wonder what health hazards donning this form presents to Grey, but that’s a question for another time. Now then, I will try to legitimize this buffoonery somewhat by actually describing what’s going on, the problem is that even if I do so, the video comprises two Rosparks wildly flailing about on a jungle gym for approximately 90 seconds.

The primary method of attack players will employ is the spread shot; by default, this will be on your sub-weapon button. This deals 3 damage and is incapable of comboing into or from anything else; at least the animation has some panache I suppose. Of paramount importance is the knowledge that the player-controlled Rospark can cancel the spread shot animation by pressing the jump button to drop off the column; this is absolutely crucial to avoid being stuck in the lengthy recovery animation and taking damage as a result. In fact, using the jump button to drop off a column is preferable to switching using your vine arms to shift; it’s much safer due to gaining immediate movement, even if bulb Rospark is objectively slower. The only instance of using the vine arm to move via grabs is while the real Rospark is charging his triple lightning beam.

Even knowing this, you’ll find it quite awkward to avoid taking damage, both from contact and opposing projectiles. The player-controlled Rospark’s hitbox is simply too large to avoid taking damage from the opposing spread shots in most positions; as such, the focus in this battle is dancing around while carefully observing the movements of the boss. You’ll notice that on numerous occasions, I decline to take advantage of seemingly free attack opportunities. This is due to the fact that I have no knowledge of a predetermined path through this fight, it wasn’t feasible—at least for me—to find any manner of dependable pattern manipulation here. In lieu of that, my goal was to find a consistent safe spot from which I could attack.

The ideal position is thus: you want to stand at the bottom of a column adjacent to the boss Rospark while he’s stationed at or above the center of his column. This results in all manner of shots sailing right by the player Rospark. You also enjoy the benefit of a more lenient reaction time requirement when having to switch columns due to boss Rospark having the capability of sending vertical sparks through the conduits. That aspect of the fight is assuredly the most dangerous; on numerous occasions, I just barely manage to escape being clipped by the sparks. Should boss Rospark move downward to your elevation, you must immediately move upward to avoid potential spread shots; when they’re launched from the bottom part of the screen, players can only avoid the salvo by residing at the top of an adjacent column. Likewise, when boss Rospark ascends, I drop down using the jump button to make haste and arrive back at the ideal position. And so, it’s for these reasons that you’ll watch me perform the lunatic dance that I do: shifting up and down rapidly, repeatedly dropping off and grabbing the columns again, it’s all in service of avoiding damage in a fight which was probably never intended to be completed this way.

One saving grace is that the fight does become easier as it wanes. Boss Rospark’s healing is easily countered by shifting to the column behind him and launching 3 waves of spread shots. He heals 6 units while you can counter with 9 units of damage, so it’s a net gain. The only exception is when boss Rospark is at the edge of a room, then you must drop down to the corner and use the vine arms and needle shot to retaliate, dealing less damage than the healing. Thankfully, he doesn’t do this here.

It may seem excessive to display such prudence, but I couldn’t find any other consistent method of engaging in this farce without tanking hits. I can’t imagine anyone at Inti Creates wasted their time beyond testing that it’s possible in normal mode with sub-tanks. With that, the clown show is over and the circus leaves town once more, I hope you enjoyed this nonsense.
