Game #29 is Swords and Serpents on the NES, a CRPG.

Swords and Serpents features an automap (first CRPG with one on consoles), equipment you can actually examine to see their stats, and some very nice monster portraits/animations.

While the menu is a bit slugish to navigate and the first-person dungeon graphics are sub-par, this game is surprisingly enjoyable. Even with the automap it's needed to draw your own maps (since the game only stores 2 automaps at once), which helps you discover secrets.

The only major complaint is the save system which requires 5 (!) separate lengthy passwords (one for each character plus a main one) in order to continue the game.
