Why is the RTX 4090 so powerful?
The main focus: clock speeds. The RTX 3090 Ti topped out at around 1.8GHz, but the RTX 4090 showcases the efficiency of the new node with a 2.52GHz boost clock. That's with the same board power of 450 watts, but it's running on more cores.

Is 4090 overkill for gaming?
Again, if you're using a 1080p monitor — even one with an extreme refresh rate — the RTX 4090 will almost certainly be overkill. That's less true if you're playing games with lots of ray tracing effects, but we'll get to that in a moment.

Is i9-13900K good for gaming?
Just as the RTX 4090 is way overkill for gamers, the Core i9-13900K is too. Its single-core performance is strong, as you would expect, and it does very well in games and gaming-centric benchmarks, as you'll see below, but you don't need 24 cores in a gaming PC.
