RUMOR: Nintendo NX will use Cartridges? - TPAG

Today we have had multiple media outlets posting about a rumor that the new Nintendo system coming out in early 2017 will be using cartridges instead of the traditional compact disc that game consoles have been using for the last decade. This rumor comes from a company called Macronix that produces the Nintendo 3DS cartridges for Nintendo. Macronix has stated, and I am paraphrasing here, that they expect the sales of ROM chips to increase with the release of the new Nintendo console. Because of this news, people are theorizing that Nintendo’s newest console will use cartridges instead of the traditional discs.

The last home console to use cartridges was the Nintendo 64. The Nintendo 3DS still uses cartridges, which as I stated are produced by Macronix. The new system is speculated to be a hybrid system that can be portable and a home console, so using cartridges for its games does not seem too far-fetched of a possibility. I will say this though: In my opinion, a cartridge by today’s technology standards could be a better option to store game data on than a compact disc as it can have data written on to it and likely hold more data.

Again, this is simply a rumor and we will have to wait and see if any of this information is in fact true.
