Rune Factory 5 is the latest installment in the popular fantasy farming life simulation series, featuring colorful presentation and deep storytelling. Rune Factory 5 is well-equipped with the basics to please its series’ old & new fans alike. The fantasy farming life you can experience in this game provides satisfaction and fun overall.
Players can make friends with various NPCs and can interact with them continuously. This is the biggest attraction of this game. It's not much different from the previous entries in the series, but it's still interesting. When you become close with the villagers, you can go on adventures together, which can cause a special event toward story progression, allowing you to date and marry them. Experiencing the stories and quests with them can make you more immersed in this game world and the amount of dialogue with NPCs is diverse and rich as the game mainly focuses on story and interaction.
Overall, this game is designed so that you can enjoy various fantasy and farming life activities in a casual way. What this means is that, with the exception of some elements, the depth of the game content is somewhat lacking. Action in battles is better than the previous entries in the series, but is still mediocre. While the 2D anime character graphics are neat and good, the 3D modeling quality is poor. Despite these shortcomings, the gameplay is fun.
Rune Factory 5 is definitely a game worth trying out. It features a hybrid genre; Farming, JRPG-style character growth, dungeon exploration, monster taming, forming relationships with NPCs, and so on. Even after the story ends, you can still have a good time with other various side activities. This game keeps the gameplay mostly basic while still retaining the fun, so if you like anime or more semi-casual kinds of games, then this is the game for you. Recommended!
