This video will explain you how to train magic and smithing in free to play. You need 50+ Smithing and 43+ Magic for this to work. The steps in short:

1. Buy Staff of Fire
2. Buy 1 Nature Rune for every 1 Mithril Ore
3. Buy 4 Coals for every 1 Mithril Ore
4. Cast Superheat Item on the Mithril Ores
5. Sell the Mithril Bars in Grand Exchange

You can smith up to 5 Mithril Bars if you have 5 Mithril ores and 20 Coals in your Inventory, even more with the Coal Bag from Dungeoneering. Depending on the market price, you will lose, get even or even make a little bit money.
