37This is a simple gameplay mix with soundtrack of the mobile J2ME game Runner 626, the game was created by Mayhem Studio in 2007 and was released for a large variety of mobile phone models and resolutions.
Mayhem Studio was a game developer based on Spain, the company has been gone defunct as of 2011.
Runner 626 was a very underrated game. Unfortunately the mobile market back in the J2ME era didn't receive the popularity of today's era.
Many games were released for the platform, though many may have fell in obscurity as well. With the release of emulators such as J2ME Loader and further research on the J2ME platform, a number of games are being re-discovered by the gaming communities.
I would love to see a remake of this game.
The game really had a awesome soundtrack.
I managed to mix up a number of different soundfonts, in order to improve the songs and make them sound like remastered versions of the originals.
The art style is amazing, character animations and sprites are pretty well done.
Runner 626 was released as the first game with the one button concept by the developer, the mechanic works really well, controls are responsive, and it feels nice doing so. Though it may take some time to get used to for new players.
The game history is simple but its very cool, there is even a comic book styled ending! (Sorry for the spoiler xd).
In a far future, you are an Human that has been captured and forcibly taken into a death race were you have to go against a rival while at the same you run away from a Alien on a ship carrying a lethal ray (named Omicron-IV ingame). Only one competitor can win the race, so it will be either you or your CPU controlled opponent who can win, and survive.
At first you will be racing against other Human opponents and once you have demonstrated to be the best Human Runner, you will race against the advanced machines created by Robotron.
Once you have beaten all your opponents, you will face the final opponent, Karonte, a genetically enhanced cyborg Human clone that was created using your data.
After you beat him, you will go into the ending scene were the unnamed Alien on the ship becomes rampant and angry at you for defeating all your opponents, he tries to kill you but you manage to land a flying kick on him. Defeating him and in turn, escaping from the competition and returning home.
