Running a Pop! OS 20.10 VM in Virtualbox

01. Download Pop! OS https://pop.system76.com/
02. Launch Virtualbox
03. Create a New VM by selecting Machine ≫ New
Name: Pop! OS 20.10
Machine Folder: C:\VMs
Type: Linux
Version: Ubuntu (64-bit)
Memory Size: 4096 MB
Hard disk: Create a virtual hard disk now
04. Click Create
05. On the Create Virtual Hard Disk dialog
Name the virtual disk image Pop! OS 20.10.vdi
File size: 16 GB
Hard disk file type: VDI
Storage on physical hard disk: Dynamically Allocated
06. Click Create
07. Select the VM and Click Settings
08. Select System ≫ Processor
09. Give the VM at least 2 processors
10. Select Display
11. Slide the Video Memory to 128 MB
12. Select Network
13. Set the attached to dropdown to Bridged Adapter
14. Select Storage
15. Click on the CD-ROM drive
16. Select the disc dropdown to the right ≫ Choose a virtual optical disc file...
17. Browse to and select the downloaded Pop! OS .iso file
18. Click OK
19. Make sure the Pop! OS 20.10 VM is selected and click Start ≫ Normal
20. Click the Activities button ≫ Search install ≫ Select Install Pop!_OS
21. Choose a language ≫ Click Select ≫ Click Select
22. Select a keyboard layout ≫ Click Select ≫ Click Select
23. Click Clean Install ≫ Click Clean Install
24. Select the ATA VBOX HARDDISK ≫ Click Erase and Install
25. Click Don't Encrypt
26. Wait while Pop! OS copies files and installs
27. When the installation completes click Restart Device
28. At the Welcome! screen click Next, Next
29. Choose to enable or disable Location Services ≫ Click Next
30. Select a time zone ≫ Click Next
31. Click Skip on the Connect Your Online Accounts screen
32. Enter a full name and username ≫ Click Next
33. Enter and re-enter a password ≫ Click Next
34. Click Start Using Pop!_OS
35. Welcome to Pop! OS 20.10

Optional Steps

01. Click the Applications button ≫ Search "terminal" ≫ Click Terminal
02. Run the following commands to install updates
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get clean
03. Select Devices ≫ Insert Guest Additions CD image...
04. If the installation autoruns, select Run
05. Open the Files application ≫ Select the Guest Additions Disc ≫ Right click in the white space ≫ Open terminal here
06. In the Terminal window run the following commands
sudo sh ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
sudo reboot
07. The VM will reboot
08. Upon rebooting, you can now full screen the VM and the internal resolution will automatically change to match the window size
09. Log back in
