Tatami Time Machine Blues is the sequel to The Tatami Galaxy and the third anime adaptation of Tomihiko Morimi’s novels with the same title. The second is Night Is Short, Walk On Girl, which is set in the same universe as the Tatami novels.

The story begins when a fight breaks out on school grounds, and high school student, Miyano, encounters delinquent upperclassman, Sasaki, who ends up saving the day. Miyano is instantly impressed by how manly and cool Sasaki is, and ends up mentally comparing him to the male protagonists found in the BL manga he secretly likes to read.

Miyano keeps the fact that he is a fudanshi – a straight guy who is interested in BL (Boy’s Love) manga, a secret out of fear for being misunderstood due to his girlie face. However, when he finds out that Sasaki has a similar interest in BL manga the two begin to form an unlikely friendship. But as Miyano and Sasaki grow closer, the two of them learn that you can’t control who you fall in love with as they start to develop romantic feelings for each other.
