Summary of Scarlet Letter Hawthorne
The novel begins with an introduction, where the author tells us about his discovery. These were the notes of Jonathan Pugh, who described the life of a woman who lived at the end of the 17th century.
Esther Prin is released from captivity with a baby. She is dressed in elegant clothes, where an embroidered letter A is visible on the chest, the initial letter of the word, indicating that she was punished for adultery. The townspeople look at her and her dress with judgment. The woman had to suffer severe punishment, she had to stand until noon in the square under the disapproving gaze of the people. The whole reason was that she refused to give the name of the man with whom she had sinned out of wedlock.
