What cult of mac says

Scrappers makes taking out the rubbish less a boring chore and more an epic battle. Up to four players control robot garbage collectors as they clean up a grimy city. But watch out for rival teams!

Scrappers is good clean fun
It’s up to these robots to “clean up the streets of a futuristic city teeming with garbage — and trash anyone who gets in the way,“ according to Q-Games, the developer.

The goal is to get the job done as quickly as possible. And working with your teammates is necessary, as stacking and passing junk brings bigger rewards.

But there’s more to Scrappers than just moving rubbish. “Rival teams will attack and interfere, and it’s up to you to dispose of them while staying on schedule,“ warns Q-Games.

The game offers four themed areas and 20 stages. And your team’s garbage truck can be customized with over 100 unique parts. Plus, there are a variety of weapons to use to trash rival robots.

Scrappers is for 1-4 players aged 9 and up. There are versions for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, and the game supports PlayStation DualShock 4, Xbox Wireless and MFi controllers.

Play now on Apple Arcade
Scrappers debuted Friday, April 10 on Apple Arcade, a subscription gaming service. While this costs $4.99 a month, it comes with over 100 other games. And there are no other costs because Apple bans ads, in-app purchases and loot boxes.

Other recently-released group games on Apple arcade include Secret Oops! and Butter Royale.

What pocket gamer says

This week's Apple Arcade game is perhaps one of the service's most interesting yet. It's called Scrappers, and it comes to us from Q-Games, creator of the excellent PixelJunk series. What's it about? Well, it's about bin men.

It's described as a "hyper-stylised futuristic waste-management beat 'em up", which, c'mon, has to be one of the best concepts for a video game in some time. Bin men are unsung heroes in reality, but in Scrappers' dystopian future, they're seldom welcomed by the locals.

In a world now ruled by robots, old bits of rubbish have naturally spiked in value. Violent gangs have now grasped the opportunity to acquire and sell that which the bin men aim to collect, hence why you'll so often be met with aggressive robot henchmen.

You can go it alone or team up with others to keep the streets clean, and you may need some extra help when it comes to the game's tricky boss fights. By the looks of things, it could prove to be a fairly stressful experience for some, what with its constantly escalating action and onslaught of enemies.

You might remember that Q-Games was also behind one of last year's Apple Arcade releases, Frogger in Toy Town. As I say, I'm a big fan of the PixelJunk series, and the team's games are typically super polished and distinct.

Purely based on the screenshots and brief gameplay I've seen, I really love Scrappers' sense of style and unique premise, so I'll definitely be checking it out when it launches for Apple Arcade later today. Here's a link to the game's store page.

In other Apple Arcade news, updates for Lego Brawls, Stranded Sails, and Secret Oops! are all set to arrive today. Next week's Apple Arcade game is the 3D puzzler A Fold Apart.

What CNET says

This story is part of CNET's coverage of Apple Arcade, including exclusive first looks we got at some of the service's high-profile new games.

Apple Arcade on Friday added Scrappers, a new title from Q-Games, to its growing catalog of over 110 games. Scrappers takes a look at the future of waste management in a world ruled by robots. Play solo or team up with a motley crew of other trash collectors to clean up the streets.

Fight your way through the grimy streets of Junktown and strategize your trash collection to boost your efficiency and earn rewards. Watch out for rival teams ready to attack and knock you off your schedule. Use teamwork to win street brawls, customize your garbage truck, unlock and recruit more scrappers to your team and challenge friends in minigames.

Apple Arcade's $4.99-a-month gaming service debuted last September. You can play games on the iPhone, iPad, Mac, iPod Touch and Apple TV.

Got a 4K TV? With 32GB of storage and running on Apple's own A12 Bionic chip, the Apple TV 4K delivers fast performance and can help you take advantage of the various picture and audio features your TV offers to maximize your streaming performance. It lets you stream your favorite shows, movies, sports and more in 4K HDR with Dolby Atmos sound on compatible devices.
