Scumball: For some strange reason, I happen to love Mastertronic games. Not just because they were cheap (like it matters anymore), but some of the games were actually quite good and released as a budget game, though they probably could've done full price. This is a brief look at one of their finest products ever published.
Scumball wasn't always a favourite of mine, since I usually hate games that need to be mapped to make some sense of it. I've played this, however, for some time this year, and I almost know the playfield by heart. The good thing about it is that you always remember to look out for the room of death, which, I'm sure you all know of. To ease everybody else out, remember these locations: 033 and 118.
The robotic character you're controlling is called L.I.N.D.A. I have no idea what it stands for, since I rarely read any manuals, but it seems to suit the sympathetic little creature. Well, you've got this little mission to collect 8 grenades - or whatever they are, since they look very unlike a grenade - and every time you've found one, you have to go for the big green slime monster and throw a grenade at it, and once you've killed the beast with the eight grenades, the game is finished. The thing about this game is, that you'll get a rating of success at the end, which is why I got more hooked on this game than I have gotten in a number of years. The rating you'll get is calculated from the kills you've made, the lives you've lost and collected, the time of completion, the final score and perhaps some more stuff which I'm unaware of at the moment. My average completion time is about 15 minutes, so it's not like you were playing San Andreas. Great fun for a half an hour, and there's some replay value too.
