Regarding wonderland trials:
Wonderland trials is a weekly event that will reward you crystals and other useful stuffs, so you get the rank and score reward next week when WT resets. If you want to raise your rank, you need to be in the 25% players bracket, meaning you need to do WT missions and gain scores as high as possible, so you're inside the 25% player brackets. When you've raised a rank, If by the next WT resets your score is 0 or you're on 75% or below 75% player brackets, your rank will be demoted, so if you want the rank rewards, keep an eye on your % and make sure to not land in 75% or below.
Main chapter storylines also give crystals as a reward when you finish it for the first time, well, they gives you some rewards for the first time so you can get several characters for free, through crystal or bookmarks or even character minerals, so it's not a bad idea to finish the stories too. But you'll probably will keep going back and waiting for the stories since it's quite good, imo
