I saw someone make mention of this on Twitter and I just had to check if it was true.

Before opening the gate that leads to thevillage you must have discarded everything in your inventory. After that, once you enter the gates above the wells will disappear allowing you to enter the underground tunnels. Inside you will find a chest with the TMP and a couple of barrels cotaining ammo, gunpowder and a extremely weak kitchen knife.
