Secret of Mana Randomizer - Rando Mode, No Primm Speedrun in 2:13:42
Try the randomizer for yourself here! http://secretofmanaancientcave.blogspot.com/
At first glance, I thought that skipping Primm would make this paticular run impossible (well, it does under certain circumstances, but I'll mention that later). But thanks to the shorter dialogue option in the randomizer, it is very possible to complete the run without getting Primm, or even seeing her at all! If the shorter dialogue option is not checked, then she automatically joins on the Sandship. The route for this run is only marginally different than the run I did previously. There are some necessities for completing this run, however - since we don't get Primm at all, we have to rely on Popoie to carry the majority of the run, and it also relies on where the seed decides to place Lumina (and to an extent, Shade).
The differences during this run and my previous run is that I'm forced to do Ice Palace as I can't do the wall climb in Fire Palace without the glove, or the barrel trick with Cure Water (since Primm comes with the glove, obviously). I also decided to get the Mana Sword before doing the Grand Palace skip, mainly in case I needed to use it during the boss fights there; this is mainly why I decided to do Tasnica after Aegagropilon spot, although to be honest, I'm starting to think that getting the Mana Sword is probably not even necessary at all - if I can manage to do another run without forging the Mana Sword (and if I don't have any resets for whatever reason), could possibly come up with a sub-2hr seed. We'll see - the hard part is rolling a seed where Lumina doesn't kill my run by being in a spot where we don't want to see her.
Now that I mention Lumina, whether the run can be completed or not relies on where the seed decides to place her. If Lumina shows up at Shade, Luna or Dryad, the run can be completed no problem. Since we don't get Primm during this run, we cannot use Lumina magic, so if she appears in any of the first four elemental spots (Water/Earth/Wind Palaces or at the resort town in Ice Country), the run is impossible to complete thanks to the any of the crystal orbs up to and including Fire Palace. If Lumina is @ Undine, we can't get past Earth Palace. If @ Gnome, we can't get through the White Dragon Cave in Matango. If @ Sylphid, we can't progress past the second part of Upperland and if @ Salamando, we can't progress past Fire Palace. Also, if Lumina is at her vanilla spot and Shade happens to be at Moon Palace, that's a no go as well.
We don't want to spend an eternity fighting the Mana Beast fight, so we want to have Shade. Evil Gate works on bosses in the randomizer, and is going to be the quickest way to kill him, by far. I did prepare three segments in case Shade should happen to show up at Lumina, Luna or if he was at his vanilla spot at Dark Palace. Thankfully, I managed to find him @ Gnome, meaning I could just skip those splits. Shade being @ Luna would be the worst case scenario, as that would force me to do both Light Palace AND Moon Palace. Shade being @ vanilla Dark Palace wouldn't have been too bad; just an extra boss and some time to clear the palace itself, making the run slightly slower.
Anywho, of course Snapdragon spot always is one of the main trouble spots, and it was so here as well, since the seed placed Metal Mantis there. Metal Mantis is a dangerous boss in general in various locations - I had to take two resets here because I was being dumb trying to fight it, when I should've just spammed Evil Gate the whole time and kill him that way. Gaia's Navel also trolled me a bit with both Heck Hounds and Nemesis Owls spawning in there (cost me a reset). Run can definetly be improved, but this is a start.
