Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - How to defeat Guardian Ape [Sunken Valley] boss?
2This video shows the first boss battle with the Guardian Ape in Sekiro. The fight takes place at the very end of Sunken Valley (the valley is located behind Ashina Castle). The battle has two phases. In the first phase Guardian Ape is still a beast. The best way to win is to rely on Shinobi Firecrackers to scare the ape. You can then move behind it to inflict easy sword damage. Make sure to block standard attacks and to avoid unblockable grab attacks. In the second phase the ape becomes an undead and starts to use a blade. Focus on perfect deflections. Deflecting the strongest attack will allow you to perform a series of hits before the boss recovers. You can also attack the boss when it looks like it tripped, but make sure to jump over the blade first. Avoid sweep attacks and most of all terror attacks. Move away as soon as you notice that the boss is preparing for the terror inflicting scream. You can use Divine Confetti to make yourself more immune to terror abnormality, but it's optional.
