You know thinking about it even, honestly im not even sure if I like SF6 more than SFV.. maybe thats a hot take.. I might say at first version SFV might be better than SF6... Is SF6 more "interesting" in theory than SFV? Maybe .. but does it actually play better?? Hrm im not sure even... and im not even a big fan of SFV..
Anyway the idea that every fighting game ever has always been my meter vs your meter is false. And if anything IF it was true, would imply homogenization as well. Since that would be implying that you both use meter always for the same purpose. Which if I were to even try to think of fighting games where it might be like that.. would be.. GASP.. SFA2, since custom combos are generally so much more effective than supers, than yes there is a tendancy for both players to use their meter for that, over their character dependent supers which have differences. But even in Super turbo the first game with supers, some characters are played that dont use supers.. some characters that have access to supers their supers are drastically less useful than others so its not as much of a factor if they have it.. some characters despite having useful supers say ryu, becomes not as much of a factor say vs a character like balrog because of the way their supers as used.. which shows a difference.
SF6 is a CONSTANT tug of war of my drive bar vs your drive bar.. Its if anything the main selling point to the player in a sense because its the mental stack/mind game if you will that you can not "appreciate" in other games. Now the sad part about SF6 is though that characters despite being so... "different" because they are so rigged/stiff/pre planned, all seem to generally being using the meter in the same way.. Its funny how a game that is potentially the most free flowing SF if you will, is somehow so dry.
