Sheebah Karungi - Bum Sakata
#BumSakata - Sheebah Karungi
Review by Timothy Kalyegira
Style: Dancehall
Language: Luganda, English
End: Cold cut
This is one of the latest of the hit songs by one of the biggest Ugandan recording artists #Sheebah, released late in 2016.
Although its melody sounds much like "Nkwatako", this is somewhat different from her previous songs.
The computer programming in "Bum Sakata" is marked by a dominant, mild synth bass and a high keyboard note that plays above and behind her vocals.
Karungi sings in her familiar snarling vocal style although the tone in this song is more subdued.
Soft soprano vocals can be heard harmonising subtly in the background and in parts of the verse.
The affectionate "Kyana gwe" expression in #SheebahKarungi songs is also present here.
Ever since "Jordan" in 2014, Sheebah or her songwriters have settled on a standard formula -- a repetitive vocal chant aimed at the club/dance audience.
With this song, sang in a monotone that is a fusion of chorus and verse from start to end, that formula continues, now with her English lyrics sang in the Jamaican Patois dialect.
In summary, her best song so far or at any rate, one of her best.
