finally beat another game, total playtime counting deaths was somewhere around 75+ hours so this was a beefy game! I liked it a lot but if I had to summarize my thoughts, it felt like something was missing with this game?

The gameplay was fantastic as was the music of course. New additions like magatsuhi gauge were really fun to exploit for massive damage potential and press turn lets you get creative as always. essences and ITEMS were broken as hell lol. I like the subtle streamlining of demon negotiations to get rid of the more unnecessary headaches while still keeping them as unpredictable threats. difficulty of bosses was just right I feel too. Hard Mode was fair. DLC locking so much is unfortunate but thankfully it was not needed, whether you feel strongly about that or just want to save money.

I don't know if it was a lack of time to really flesh out the story and characters but their motivations and the way the whole plot plays out just feels so abrupt and lacking. there are also huge swathes of this game that feel like nothing is progressing other than you mindlessly killing stuff so that's a bit of a shame.

exploration was decent for their first genuine shot at this kind of bigger world, i liked finding Mimans and figuring out the way to items placed really high up. the jumping and running could use some refinement and hopefully a way better map to expand upon that verticality a bit? not a huge deal.

performance wise this game ran in a really strange way. I applaud the large areas without needing to load but handheld mode being the better framerate was definitely weird.

lemme know what you thought about the story or any part of this game if you feel like it. I think this is somewhat of a polarizing entry in the series on that specific point. Slightly more boomer SMT fans like me and my friends seem to dislike the story or see a lot of flaws in it while funnily enough self-professed Persona 5 newcomers that I see in comment sections seem to love this story (when the reviewers who compared them didn't)
