Shinobi non Grata [PS4] One Life Clear
8A shaky first clear of this superb 2023 release, also on Switch and Steam, with XB1 announced. Combines the blitzkrieg intensity of IREM's Ninja Spirit with the vivid boss carnival of Treasure's Alien Soldier (and plenty of nods to Yoshiaki Kawajiri's classic anime Ninja Scroll!). I'm not sure how viable (read: milk-proofed) its scoreplay is, but nailing those Katana Finish + No Damage bonuses is fiendishly compelling. Didn't quite get the whole slate here, haha.
Unfortunately, it has a few bugs in need of patching; basically, the game stutters at a few consistent spots, namely the st2-2 and st4-4 bosses, in addition to a couple of transitional areas in st4. This debut version being a little over a week old (PS1.0.0), I'm hopeful they'll tighten it up. It's still thoroughly enjoyable as-is, and easily worthy of comparison with its renowned inspirations.
