Shockman (Part 2, "Good Night, Sweet Saturn") - Episode 181
Consoles die. I know this and you know this--it's just part of console life. Still, despite this knowledge, this acceptance, losing a console is hardly ever easy.
I got my Saturn the year it came out stateside and waited those long, long months for something, anything, to come out. Even then, the system began to collect dust, outclassed and overshadowed by something called the PlayStation.
Until one day.
My friend and I stopped by a locally-owned game shop that had quite the collection imports on demo. That's the first time I saw X-Men Vs. Street Fighter outside of the arcade...and it was, to the untrained eye, arcade perfect. From that moment on, my Saturn became and import machine. Vampire Savior, Radiant Silvergun, Marvel Vs. Street Fighter, Pocket Fighter, Thunder Force V...it was amazing! And let's not forget about the late gen Saturn titles. Titles like Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shining Force III, the former of which became one of my personal favorite RPGs.
True, I haven't played the system itself in months--perhaps longer. But now that I know I can't play it, well, that makes me sad.
Shockman also makes me sad because I expected this game to be kind of cool. Instead, it kind of sucks.
It's been a bad day for gaming.
