Shortest Flights Ever!! โ๏ธ Freewing Gripen ...BIG FAIL!! ๐ฑ ๐
These flights happened a long time ago, back when I had just upgraded my EDF system to an 8S jetfan setup (find details below). This combo is extremely power hungry and most lipos I had just couldn't cope with it, so I had a few nasty surprises. In this video you can see two consecutive fails where the jet had plenty of power to take-off then the batteries died (voltage sagged massively due to the extreme amp draw) and I was left basically powerleft with a brick of a plane in very bad conditions to land again. The first time I managed to come around and land the jet intact (although I almost hit a flagpole from the racer drones' circuit) but on the second I just didn't have enough energy or residual thrust and had to ditch the plane in the adjacent field. Not great, but the damage was really minor stuff. I fixed it, bought new batteries and kept flying ;)

The jet is powered with an upgraded 8S 80mm Jetfan EDF with a 1865kv HET motor. I had to cover the cheater hole with a mosquito net to protect my expensive investment from an otherwise inevitable FOD considering the conditions of my gravel-dirt runway so the jet isn't even displaying it's full thrust potential. This obviously has an effect on performance and current draw. Sadly this setup is too amp hungry and can only get two and a half to three minute flights with throttle management and 3Ah packs. The batteries also struggle to deliver the amps, despite being Panther packs that are pretty heavy/capable. Overall the Jetfan is indeed an improvement in performance over stock setup, but the short resulting flight time kinda defeats the purpose, need to go to higher capacity batteries, and using lower-C packs to keep the weight in check.
