Hey howâs it going guys! Welcome to our review of Burnout Paradise Remastered, available on the Nintendo Switch. Weâll tell you everything you need to know before you play, but before I do make sure to hit subscribe for reviews, interviews, features and more. Youâre not going to want to miss it!
Can you believe itâs been over 12 years since we were blessed with the gift that is Burnout Paradise? What is still the latest entry in the franchise completely reinvented the formula by taking the series into the gorgeous open world of Paradise City, while maintaining tight accessible handling and gloriously over indulgent crash mechanics.
In 2018 we got a remaster for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One, but now in June 2020, itâs the Nintendo Switchâs turn to take to the track. But after so many years and releases, is there any mileage left in Burnout Paradise? Watch on to find out...
Firstly, running at 60fps and with updated textures, Burnout Paradise has never looked better. Itâs truly a sight to behold in both handheld and docked mode, particularly given the base game came out so long ago. In fact especially in handheld mode, youâd be hard pressed to differentiate it from similar modern titles. Iâd even go as far as to say itâs the perfect console for the game. The arcade-y game style makes it ideal for the pick up and play nature of the Switch.
And when you do play, youâll have plenty of variety to choose from. All of the classic game modes can be found, including Race, Marked Man and my personal favourite - Road Rage, where smashing up your opponent is the aim of the game. Couple this with over 150 different cars and bikes to pick from, each with their own unique stats, and youâve got so much to see and do.
But if youâve been there and done that with the original game, this remaster also comes with all 8 post launch DLC packages including Cops and Robbers pack, Legendary Cars, Burnout Bikes, and Big Surf Island.
And all this can be taken online in 8 player multiplayer, allowing for infinite replayability.
But whether youâre taking on missions or just casually cruising the streets, it all takes place in one of the best open worlds to be found in any racing game. With shortcuts to exploit and plenty of unique environments to enjoy, Paradise City is iconic for a reason, and itâs just a delight to explore.
And speaking of Paradise City, no conversation about this game would be complete without looking at its legendary soundtrack. Every song has been cherry picked to make you want to put the pedal to the metal. Stand out tracks come from the likes of Killswitch Engage, Senses Fail and of course, Guns âNâ Rosesâ Paradise City. Much like the soundtracks of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series, itâs more than just an aesthetic inclusion, rather it becomes an integral part of the gaming experience.
It might be my own rose tinted glasses talking, but Iâm hard pressed to find any fault with the game itself. The only major thing that is disappointing is that it is Burnout Paradise again. With the next generation of consoles teasing what they can do, itâs got me pining for a new entry to the series, with a fresh world, cars while maintaining the cartoonish spirit of the franchise. With constant re-releases, Burnout Paradise runs the risk of becoming the Skyrim of racing games.
And to make matters worse, itâll set you back $49.99 or ÂŁ44.99, a hugely steep price for such an old game. As you can tell I love it to death, but even Iâm struggling to justify the price...
