Silver Surfer NES pt 4 - Banning/Censoring To Kill a Mockingbird - Whang!
112In this fourth installment of my series on the Silver Surfer video game for NES, we play through the Mephisto stage and the Firelord stage. We also touch on on a number of topics.
(3:16) Although the subject itself is nothing new, banning/censoring To Kill a Mockingbird is in the news once again. This time, it's a school in Virginia that has brought the topic back to the limelight. Personally, I think that the idea of banning the book because of the language is uses completely misses the point of the book. It also deprives children of the chance to read one of our culture's most powerful anti-racist works of art. I'm absolutely certain that To Kill a Mockingbird has shaped many people's attitudes about racism in a positive way. Banning or censoring this book is completely counter-productive any goals that involve fighting racism.
I also discuss the origins of this channel, including how I originally wanted to do something akin to Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast.
Once again, I also touch on the mystery behind YouTube's new algorithm and delve into the pitfalls of Patreon.
It's getting pretty exciting. We're almost done with Silver Surfer. Barring some kind of disaster, the next video should be the last in the series.
