Simplifying its app for users, Waze removes one crowdsourced reporting choice
Google acquired Waze for over $1 billion nearly 11 years ago, leaving many people confused as Google already owned Google Maps, the number one navigation app. However, both apps cater to different users. Google Maps shows users how to get from point "A" to point "B" and also suggests places to go when they arrive at their destination. Waze, on the other hand, focuses on the journey and relies on crowdsourced information from its community of users. Recently, Waze removed the option to report a "vehicle on road" to simplify its reporting choices, and instead, users can now report a "blocked lane," which includes a vehicle stuck on the road. According to a survey by MarketWatch, Google Maps is the most popular navigation app with 70% of respondents using it, while Waze is second with 27%. If you've never tried Waze, you can download it from the Google Play Store (for Android users) or by tapping on this link (for iPhone users).
