12Sindel fist appeared as a playable character in Mortal Kombat 3 (1995). Her backstory has been retconned more than once... She was once the queen of Edenia and the mother of Kitana. In Mortal Kombat 11, its revealed that her unwillingness to marry Shao Kahn was a lie that she told to keep Kitana and her followers, the Edenian people, loyal to her. In reality she was resentful of her husband King Jerrod. She admired Shao Kahn's willingness to dominate and take what he wanted. When Edenia lost 10 Mortal Kombat Tournaments in a row to Outworld, Emperor Shao Kahn invaded to merge the Edenia into Outworld. King Jerrod was killed, Sindel became Empress of Outworld, and Shao Kahn adopted Kitana as his own daughter. Sindel is known to be fierce, has a regal attitude and can scream like a banshee. She can use her long grey hair as a weapon if needed. In the new timeline of MK1 Sindel is still the Empress of Outworld but this time she is on the side of good. She has two daughters, Mileena now the oldest, and Kitana.
