Skyrim 100% Maximized Legendary Playthrough - 218. Darkfall Cave
The Elder Scrolls revealed to us the location of Auriel's Bow, which is what we're off to retrieve. We start at Darkfall Cave, which will lead us next to Darkfall Passage, which will then lead us to the rather large Forgotten Vale. I understand the idea of a cave passage leading under the mountains to a forgotten valley, but I do feel Darkfall Cave and Darkfall Passage are a bit unnecessarily long. In any case we have to fight through a plethora of first spiders, then Falmer, before finally arriving at a shrine where we find a Snow Elf, of all things.
I'm not really sure what to make of Gelebor. For one, elves are not supposed to be inherently immortal, yet he's just...here...for some reason, despite having been born presumably sometime in the first era before the Snow Elves were corrupted into the Falmer. Just a line about how Auriel has preserved his life through the millennia so that he can continue to protect the shrine would make sense, but we get nothing, despite the fact that he does explain the ghostly prelates that still tend the wayshrines. Second, he's oddly almost self-aware in his role as a quest giver. He's very blunt that he will help you get Auriel's Bow in exchange for killing his brother, his sole reason being that his brother is behaving...oddly? He thinks - *thinks*, mind you - that his brother has been corrupted somehow by the Falmer, and that's apparently enough justification as to why he needs to die. No surprise from him either that his brother is still alive after millennia also, despite the fact that when you return later he was clearly unaware that his brother had become a vampire. I just feel that there must have been some editing in the writing that happened here that accidentally cut some crucial exposition.
In any case, after several thrilling minutes of trying to retrieve all the hanging moss in the cavern, we cut here, as the designers felt that a second Falmer infested cave was warranted before we get to the actual Forgotten Vale, which is where we'll pick up next time.
