Skyrim 100% Maximized Legendary Playthrough - 424. Exploring Western Hjaalmarch Part 3
We continue working through the western part of Hjaalmarch, and today our focus is on the large stretch of land bounded by the road that runs north from Robber's Gorge and then turns east towards Morthal and the river that runs from Robber's Gorge down to where the aforementioned road passes over it.
It's a pretty mountainous and largely empty stretch of land, so there's a lot of mountain goating around, but not a lot of reward for it. The only primary locations in it are Dead Men's Respite and Forebears' Holdout. The former was the very first dungeon we did as part of this playthrough, and the latter is a Dawnguard location we finished as part of the main DLC quest. Besides that there's only a single secondary location, Dragon Mound: Robber's Gorge Bluffs.
But despite the barrenness we still enjoy exploring. We even find a minor location of note that's not a numbered location. High up to the north of Robber's Gorge we find a mountain canyon, and at the end of it is a bear guarding some bloody bones and a coin purse. Little finds like this make exploring worth the while to me. Besides loot, we also take time to scale the peak of the highest mountain in this area, giving us great views of all the low-lying lands to the north.
I had one hiccup in recording that necessitated a video splice. I had a bit of an emergency situation come up near the end that I had to quicksave and quit for. I could have just cut the video here, but I was so close to finishing this region I decided to record again from the save point and finish it all, hence the splice. Next time we'll do the small remaining forest to the north, and then we trek into the dreaded Hjaalmarch swamp.
