Steps to marrying Lydia:
1) Travel to Riften.
2) Talk to Maramal in The Bee and Barb.
3) Buy The Amulet of Mara.
4) Buy a house in Whiterun from Proventus Avenicci in Dragonstead. (available after informing Jarl Balgruuf about the dragon being killed.)
5) Wear the amulet and talk to Lydia. She will gain interest in you. Tell her that you are interested.
6) Return to The Bee and Barb and arrange the wedding with Maramal.
7) Speed up time to about 5 AM. If Maramal doesn't begin the ceremony, exit and re-enter the building.
8) Stand next to Lydia and wait until the vows are being said.
9) SAY "I DO!"
10) Talk to Lydia once the wedding ends. She will ask where you two should live. You could choose to live in your home, or presumably in Dragonstead. (I had adopted Lucia and Sissel beforehand, so Dragonstead was not an option.)
