Slalom - Commodore 64 - longplay
Legends says that Slalom, developed by the Japanese HAL Laboratory, arrived outside Japan thanks to piracy, because the commercial agreement between HAL and Commodore ended before the game was commercialized.
This is also why the name remains a mystery: many call it Slalom, others Ski Race, still others Alpine Ski (perhaps because the game is a clear clone of the arcade made by Taito) or Skier.
And what about the original cover of this game? Anyone knows if there's one?
The game has a total of 6 levels (slalom courses). Each level consists of a course with 39 goals.
The time limits are:
Level 1 = 1:00 minute
Level 2 = 2:00 minutes
Level 3 = 2:50 minutes
Level 4 = 4:00 minutes
Level 5 = 5:00 minutes
Level 6 = no limit (?) or no information
Each missed goal costs 5 penalty seconds
Each crash also costs 5 seconds penalty, plus approximately 3 seconds of lost time for the fall animation
In a two-player game, the opponents drive one after the other: Player 2 only starts when Player 1 has completed the level.
From level 3 onwards, rabbits cross the track as an additional obstacle.
In addition, according to the instruction screen, the response of the controls should become slower at higher levels.
The longer it takes you to drive through the next goal after passing through one, the fewer points you get for the goal.
The optimal point value for a goal passed through is 900 points, the worst value is 100 points.
It is impossible to score 900 points for EVERY goal.
You also can't complete a level with the fire button constantly pressed and all the gates passed.
It is possible to drive between two trees.
Played and recorded by V.E.D., as part of the videogame endings database, whose goal is to catalogue and create the world's largest archive of videogame endings! (what an humble and not ambitious project :D)
