While Nintendo released the exclusive e-Reader Level Cards in a way that is built in to the GBA version of Super Mario Bros. 3 on Wii U VC and Nintendo Switch Online, the game is still sorely missing several aspects, mainly, the actual Power-Up Cards that you could have scanned in the original version.

Using the Power-Up Cards, one can add special e-Switches which change the gameplay of the main game and World-e, as well as adding exclusive power-up items to the player's inventory.

To make up for this omission, I have pre-loaded a special save file which has scanned ALL the e-Switches, including those originally exclusive to Japan, as well as the exclusive power-ups (Cape Feather and Boomerang), into File 1 on the File Select screen, and has also scanned all the possible e-Switches into World-e. Mario and Luigi's inventory in File 1 are totally filled with the e-Reader exclusive Cape Feathers and Boomerangs, and the shared inventory in World-e also has many items scanned in. This way, anyone can experience the extra changes the e-Reader makes to the main game as well--not just the extra levels alone!

This video demonstrates gameplay showing how different, as well as tougher, a standard playthrough of the main game can be thanks to the new switches and inventory items, as well as showcasing the new effects of the switches which are exclusive to World-e as well.

Here is an overview of what all the e-Switches do:

Red Switch - When activated, replaces most of the enemies in the game with more difficult ones, doubles score gained, doubles all bosses' health, and makes Mario/Luigi go directly from any fully powered-up form to Small Mario/Luigi, the last part being exactly like in the original Japanese Famicom version.

Orange Switch - Allows Fire Mario/Luigi's fireballs to make enemies drop coins when defeated like in Super Mario World.

Yellow Switch - Gives Luigi his scuttle jump ability from Super Mario Bros. 2 in the main game, and makes his fireballs bounce higher. Scanning this switch will do nothing in World-e, as Luigi already has these properties by default and they cannot be removed.

Blue-Green Switch - Makes grass with turnips appear throughout the main game, which Mario/Luigi can pluck and throw at enemies, like in Super Mario Bros. 2. Scanning this switch will do nothing in World-e, as the effect is already active and cannot be removed.

Blue Switch - Replaces all of the game's 1-Up Mushrooms with 3-Up Moons.

Green Switch - In World-e only, causes every level to have a slow timer countdown and music for the first 50 counts of the timer, giving the player more time to complete each level. Once this effect expires, a coin sound effect is played, and both the timer and the music go back to normal speed.

Cyan Switch - In World-e only, cuts the P-Meter from six arrows to just three, making it much easier to run across stages and fly with Raccoon, Tanooki, or Caped Mario/Luigi.

If, and only if, in the event that the above link is dead, try this link instead:

Note that this save file is specifically made for the North American Wii U VC release, and may not work with the other versions. There are two save files within the RAR file; a standard save file with all the switches active, and an "Except Red Switch" file that includes everything other than the Red Switch which boosts the difficulty of the game. Choose whichever save file you prefer, and enjoy the game with a fresh new twist!

This video wouldn't have been possible without the amazing work of those behind the SMA4 e-Reader Project, which you should also look up--along with the tireless work of GBA e-Reader preservationists!
