SMS Route Comparison - "Beginner" vs Route Depository's "No Yoshi Skip" (read description for info)
I am on a quest to find the fastest route that doesn't use Yoshi Skip. This video compares two routes that do not do Yoshi Skip.
All parts of each route that are identical have been removed, leaving only the parts that are different. This amounts to just a few minutes of plaza movement and level entries/exits.
On the left you will see what I have come to know as the "Beginner Route", and on the right you will see a route that I found in the community's "Any% Route Depository 2024" Google Sheet labelled "No Yoshi Skip". With a name like that, I had to assume that this was the fastest route that doesn't do Yoshi Skip, but I thought it looked pretty sus so I decided to make this video comparing it to the "Beginner Route".
It turns out I was right. The "Beginner Route" saves almost 30 seconds over the "No Yoshi Skip" route from the Google Sheet. Take this with a massive grain of salt, as this video uses MY plaza movement, which is pretty trash. I tried to clean it up with video editing. That said, the difference is pretty pronounced. I think we can safely conclude that the Beginner Route is faster.
I think the problem with the "No Yoshi Skip" route from the Sheet is it prioritizes getting to Pinna in as few shines as possible, which causes it to lose out on Travel Skip and rack up 4 extra event cutscenes.
