8I later found out that the giant robot boss has midpoints, and then figured that it would actually be doable. It was also a great idea to switch around my two running keys so the A key will auto fire, rather than having to keep tapping it.
And then I beat the boss.
I also go back to Bowser's Castle, to get that exit because I must have loaded a state rather than do a reset, making it not count.
