I've been pretty outspoken about my general dislike of tier lists for fighting games, but that's due to the fact that there is no rhyme or reason beyond "feeling" for most of them. While those can be a useful type for discussion, I find that a lot of people only use them to confirm their own biases (i.e. this tier list aligns with my own feelings so it's good vs. I disagree with this tier list ergo it sucks). Combine this with a lot of makers "weaponizing" them by putting characters they want nerfed high and putting their own characters lower on purpose, and it creates a fairly frustrating culture surrounding them that results in the discussion being useless. Hopefully assigning tiers with a very specific purpose/reason behind it alleviates a lot of this.
