Solomon's Key glitch (NES)
If you stand near the edge of a block, you can create a block on that block, instead of adjacent to it. The game pushes you back afterwards. In the setup here, that would ordinarily mean you fall down. But if you use some ... interesting ... inputs on the frame that you recover from creating the block, the game seems to not register the "fall" state -- although your Y position does slowly increase.
I used it here to illustrate an alternative way to get the key, but probably more important is that you can jump after making a block in this way, rather than falling down. I don't think such a trick is currently viable in real runs, but who knows -- maybe one day.
