Just built a new system for VR and thought I would get some Overwatch in but I was seeing a huge amount of lag in game - 180-200ms ping! I thought I must be connecting to the US servers but no I was connecting to AU servers (thanks for verifying that Hooblie).

I killed off all background apps that I thought might cause an issue but it still didn't resolve my issue. I thought it might have been refresh rates or rendering scale but FPS wasn't an issue.

I tried different ethernet cables, no change.

I tried other games, CSGO was running smooth at 25ms, so no joy there either.

So I turned to Dr Google and found a couple of links:

And sure enough the Asus GameFirst III program was culprit of my woes. There is a way to have this running and get good ping but it doesn't save those settings.

There are a number of complaints about the program with overheads etc and honestly you don't need this bloatware despite its good intentions.

So the best thing to do is to remove it entirely. There is a new version of GameFirst but it too seems to have a few bugs as well and honestly I am not keen to try it out.

Anyway if you build a new PC with an Asus motherboard and are getting high ping, disabling/removing GameFirst III might just help you.
