SOMA is a science fiction survival horror game that was released on September 22nd 2015 by Frictional Games. The game takes place on the underwater research base called PATHOS-II. The story begins with the protagonist, Simon, going to get a brain scan to asses any brain damage he may have received before an accident that presumably killed his friend. After receiving the scan Simon finds himself in a dilapidated station that he later learns has been sealed off for hazardous reasons. So Simon attempts to make human contact and find out where he is and what has happened. SOMA features more of a psychologically tense and distressing atmosphere rather than relying on frequent jump scares that are present in most survival horror games as of late. Notes, emails, and strange auditory memory fragments help to build the back story of PATHOS-II to enhance it's creepy atmosphere and serve as clues to puzzles and hints to the many mysteries of SOMA.
