About the song:
It took longer to make than usual because it was kinda hard to adapt, the original puts the extra channels to good use, and I had to isolate the VGM channels to realize how important the vibrato is in this song. I started by copying the file of my cover of Knuckles' Theme, and I soon had to make some edits to the notes to include the snares, and then the volume macros to reduce the noisiness a bit. Since the orchestra hits are melodic in the song, instead of making some of the "kicks" noisier, I just had them play as square waves. It kept bugging me how weak they felt compared to how they sounded on FM, so I tried adding a duplicate channel an octave higher to make them louder and bigger whenever I had the chance. Even the effects were hard to do, at first I didn't have any, no vibrato or channel duplicates, but they felt necessary after a while so I started trying out things, though they didn't seem to add much. I figured out how to do the effects after listening to the isolated channels on a VGM, I noticed the original combined FM and PSG for the main melody with tons of vibrato on the PSG side, so I tried copying that and it started to sound better. Then I also copied the harmonies I couldn't really hear that well and that was also a great improvement.
