Sonic 3D Blast Game Sample - Sega Saturn
Original Air Date: June 17th, 2009
An upgraded version of the Sega Genesis game, this "3D" Sonic game is a neat title in its own right, but often blasted for not being like its predecessors. Anyway, its a nice looking, GREAT sounding game with some innovations and none of the speed that made Sonic famous, but its not bad. If you've played Sonic Labyrinth for the Game Gear, you'll kinda know what to expect here.
Sonic is placed in labyrinthine levels looking for enemies to defeat to get the flickies that are inside. You have to collect all the flickies before you can use the exit ring to go to different portions of the levels. Sonic can use various gimmicks within the levels to do cool things like break obstacles and travel to different parts of the level. There are also bonus stages where you get the usual Chaos Emeralds. In the Genesis game, you played this really easy and awkward bonus level that wasn't very nice to look at, but in the Saturn version, you're treated to nice, 3D bonus levels reminiscent in style to those found in Sonic 2! The thing that puts me off with this game is the long load times. When you leave a bonus stage, you have loading on top of loading!
Enjoy.
