Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is a 2D side-scrolling platformer video game developed by Sonic Team and Dimps and published by Sega. The game is the "4th" main entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and it was released in episodic format, with the first episode being released in 2010 and the second episode in 2012. The game takes place after the events of Sonic & Knuckles but doesn't add much new in terms of story.

The gameplay of Metal Sonic's story in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 attempts to be like the classic Sonic games, with players controlling Metal Sonic as he runs, jumps, and spins through the various levels of Sonic 4 episode 1.
